Rideforthecause rallies to Canadian Stakes upset

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Rideforthecause sprang a huge upset in Saturday’s Grade 2 Canadian at Woodbine, outrunning heavily favored Cambier Parc in a four-length score under David Moran.
Rideforthecause bided her time on the backstretch while about five lengths off the lead, as Another Time set a quick pace, with Amalfi Coast and Art of Almost in close proximity.
Cambier Parc took control entering the stretch, while Rideforthecause was in the midst of a sustained rally. Rideforthecause hit the front nearing the eighth pole before drawing off to win in a time of 1:45 over the about nine-furlong distance on the main turf.
Court Return came on belatedly from far back to finish a distant third in the eight-horse field of fillies and mares. Theodora B. and Runway Dreamer were scratched.

“I had a great trip,” Moran said. “She certainly got there nice and relaxed. I got a nice inside move just past the [three-eighths]. I got myself in a good position to take on [Cambier Parc]. She kept on going very gamely.”
Rideforthecause ($47.20) earned $180,000 of the $286,000 purse in her first stakes win for Sam-Son Farm. The daughter of Candy Ride was coming off a second-level optional-claiming victory going 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf.
“This filly loves this distance,” said winning trainer Gail Cox. “She’s run really well this year. She’s a tough filly. She gets a little bit wound [up], and that seems to work really well for her.”
