Ride a Comet eyes Pegasus World Cup Turf

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainer Mark Casse ran one-two in Saturday’s Grade 2 Kennedy Road with Ride a Comet and Souper Stonehenge, while the favored Canadian champion sprinter Pink Lloyd finished a wide third.
Casse said Ride a Comet was sidelined with a bowed tendon twice after capturing the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby in 2018. When he returned from a two-year layoff here Oct. 16, the closer won a seven-furlong allowance nicely and was equally impressive when taking the six-furlong Kennedy Road with a career-high 95 Beyer Speed Figure.
Casse said Ride a Comet will ship back to his Ocala, Fla., training center and could run back in the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Turf on Jan. 23 at Gulfstream. He said Souper Stonehenge is possible for the $100,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint on Jan. 16 at Gulfstream.
Tiller said the venerable gelding Pink Lloyd should be back in action next year for his 9-year-old season.

“He came out of the race perfect,” Tiller said. “He will be retired at some point next year. He will tell us when it’s over. If we’re not happy with the way he’s running, he’ll be retired. We love this horse so much. He’s an amazing animal.”
The 2017 Canadian Horse of the Year, Pink Lloyd lost out on 2019 Horse of the Year honors in a tight vote to Starship Jubilee. He’s a shoo-in to garner the Sovereign Award for champion male sprinter for the fourth straight year and is a Horse of the Year candidate for 2020.
