Rich Rubies vs. Gold Strike again

Adam Goss|Jul 16, 2004

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Rich Rubies and Gold Strike square off again in at Assiniboia Downs in Sunday's $40,000 Debutante Stakes. The 5 1/2-furlong Debutante, the first 2-year-old stakes race of the meet, has drawn a field of seven fillies. All entrants have raced only once.

Rich Rubies set the pace and narrowly held off favored Gold Strike at 4 1/2 furlongs on July 1. Trained by Emile Corbel, Rich Rubies could have pace pressure here from Redlipsnfingertips or Dancin Little T.

Rich Rubies breaks from post 7 with Vince Guerra in the irons. The jockey-trainer combo of Guerra and Corbel have won all three 2-year-old races here this year.

Trained by Blair Miller, Gold Strike will be ridden by leading rider Travis Hightower, who replaces the injured Tim Gardiner. They start from post 2.

Trainer Ardell Sayler sends out Redlipsnfingertips, Dancin Little T, and Souvenir Charm.

Redlipsnfingertips and Dancin Little T dueled with each other before finishing fifth and sixth when facing males. Redlipsnfingertips begins from post 3 with Beth Butler on board, while Dance Little T breaks from the rail with Keveh Nicholls in the irons.

Souvenir Charm finished seventh behind Rich Rubies. She starts in post 5 with Jason Leacock up.

Maid for Speed adds Lasix for this start after finishing third behind Rich Rubies. Trained by Clayton Gray, Maid for Speed will be ridden by Eldridge Lindsay from post 4.

Untouchable Gal finished fourth behind Rich Rubies. Larren Delorme will ride for trainer Chad Torevell from post 6.

* The second of four Tuesday cards will be run here this week. The remaining Tuesday dates are Aug. 10 and Aug. 17.
