Rice has two good shots in Friday allowance

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer Linda Rice appears to have a strong one-two punch in Friday’s $70,000, no-conditions allowance sprint for New York-bred fillies and mares going seven furlongs at Aqueduct. While Hot City Girl may be the better known of the two, Flatterywillgetyou may be the right one in this spot.
The 5-year-old Hot City Girl is a four-time stakes winner running in an allowance race for the first time since Oct. 29, 2015 at Belmont Park. Two starts back, she won the Broadway for New York-breds before running third in the Correction.
Flatterywillgetyou, 4, won the Bouwerie at Belmont last May. She finished second in a spot similar to this in December before running eighth in the Broadway. Both of those races were run over Aqueduct’s inner track. Just 13 days ago, Flatterywillgetyou won a second-level allowance at Laurel Park.
Though Flatterywillgetyou is a two-time winner over the inner track, Rice doesn’t believe she’s that fond of it.
“She is not a fan of the inner track – the turns are too tight for her there,” Rice said. “She could improve naturally on the outer.”
Flatterywillgetyou could also improve if the weather forecast is accurate. Heavy rain expected Thursday and possibly into Friday morning could make for a wet track for this race. Flatterywillgetyou is 3 for 4 over a wet surface.
“Flattery maybe moves up in the mud; Hot City Girl is okay,” Rice said.
Flatterywillgetyou breaks from post 4, while Hot City Girl has the outside draw in the six-horse field.
The speedy Hot City Girl may have to deal with pace pressure from Play Me a Memory, drawn on the rail under C.C. Lopez, and Absatootly, who breaks from post 3 under Eric Cancel.
