Revolutionary headed to Stephen Foster

ELMONT, N.Y. – Revolutionary, who earned a career-best 106 Beyer Speed Figure in winning last Friday’s Grade 3 Pimlico Special by a neck, likely will make his next start in the Grade 1, $500,000 Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs on June 14, trainer Todd Pletcher said Monday.
Pletcher said the race’s Grade 1 status and its place on the calendar are the major factors in his favoring the Stephen Foster over the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap at Belmont on July 5. Pletcher likes the spacing from the Stephen Foster to the $1.5 million Whitney Handicap at Saratoga on Aug. 2.
Meanwhile, Pletcher said Black-Eyed Susan Stakes winner Stopchargingmaria would be considered for the Acorn on June 7 or the Mother Goose on June 28. Those same races would be considered for My Miss Sophia, the Gazelle winner and Kentucky Oaks runner-up.
Pletcher said Kauai Katie, who finished last as the odds-on favorite in Saturday’s Grade 2 Vagrancy at Belmont, was found to have a case of the thumps, typically caused by an electrolyte imbalance.
“I would have to think it affected her performance,” Pletcher said.
Havana, last year’s Champagne winner, worked a half-mile in 49.40 seconds Monday. He is being pointed to the Woody Stephens on Belmont Day, Pletcher said.
