Revolutionary Act may have one edge

Marty McGee|Sep 08, 2005

FLORENCE, Ky. - The fact that Revolutionary Act is 4 for 4 in her lifetime at Turfway Park and 1 for 11 elsewhere is not sufficient reason to call her the horse to beat Saturday in the $75,000 Weekend Delight Stakes at Turfway.

After all, Turfway has made a highly publicized switch to a synthetic Polytrack racing surface since Revolutionary Act won her most recent start there, the Queen Stakes last March, and using data that was compiled over the former dirt surface would seem rather pointless.

But hold on, there: Revolutionary Act, idle since finishing 12th and last in a Churchill Downs turf sprint three months ago, is based at Highpointe Training Center, the LaGrange, Ky., facility with a Polytrack surface. So even though the presumed advantage of running over the old Turfway surface is no longer hers, Revolutionary Act might still bring a favorable horse-for-course angle to the six-furlong Weekend Delight, which drew a full field of 12 fillies and mares.

, a speedy 5-year-old mare owned by Camelia Casby and trained by Pat Huffman, will need to run one of the best races of her life to stay unbeaten at Turfway. The field includes several horses who have the form to threaten her, most notably Cobra Lady, Born to Dance, and Hot Storm.

, who will start from post 1, has won 14 of 23 career starts and nearly $400,000. She enters with a three-race winning streak, the latest coming Aug. 14 in an $85,000 stakes race at her home track of Mountaineer Park.

(post 4), trained by James Jackson, has earned more than $560,000 while occasionally facing rugged company. Robby Albarado, fresh from a productive meet at Saratoga, will be back on his home circuit for the first time in two months and has the mount on Born to Dance.

(post 9) also is accustomed to facing classy company, having most recently finished fourth in the Victory Ride Stakes at Saratoga. Jesus Castanon, the leading rider at the recently ended Ellis Park meet, rides for trainer Dallas Stewart.

The balance of the Weekend Delight field is Fly Away Angel, Dewey's Trick, Glitter Act, She's That Cat, Injustice, Lormateal, Thisgirldontlaugh, and Flying Falcon.
