In reversal, Golan will race at 4

Alan Shuback|Dec 05, 2001

Golan, winner of this year's 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, will not be retired to Coolmore Stud in Ireland as originally planned, but will race again next year under the training of Michael Stoute.

Golan ran into a spate of bad luck after winning the Guineas on May 5, at which point his owner, Lord Weinstock, sold a part share to Mrs. John Magnier and Michael Tabor. He was second in the Epsom Derby, then third in the Irish Derby, both times behind then-undefeated Galileo. After winning the Group 2 Prix Niel, he was fourth to Sakhee in the Arc de Triomphe after holding second until the final yards. Most recently, Golan finished an honorable sixth in the Japan Cup.

In seven starts, Golan has won three times and earned $873,222.
