Retama track report

Sheza Nasty Lady finished third in her last start to two-time graded winner Bedanken, and that race makes her seem like a solid choice Friday night in the $30,000 San Antonio Oaks at Retama Park near San Antonio.

The 1 1/16-mile turf race for 3-year-old fillies also drew the up-and-coming Very Geri.

Bedanken beat Sheza Nasty Lady by 2 1/4 lengths in the $50,000 DeBartolo Oaks at Louisiana Downs on Sept. 21, and then went on to win the Grade 3, $100,000 Valley View at Keeneland last Saturday.

Sheza Nasty Lady, who set the pace over a turf course rated good in the DeBartolo, has worked sharply for her first start since that race and figures to try and take the Oaks field wire to wire. She used that strategy two starts back to win the $50,000 Lyrique Handicap over firm turf at Louisiana Downs on Sept. 1.

Roman Chapa, the leading rider at Retama, has the mount for owner Dan Butler and trainer Troy Young.

Very Geri, another invader from Louisiana Downs, is a two-time winner on turf from five attempts and will be closing late. Glen Murphy has the mount for owner John Franks and trainer Eddie Milligan.

Retama closes out its Thoroughbred meet Saturday with a 13-race card that starts earlier than usual at 5 p.m. Central.
