She also won the California track’s Dash for Cash and Golden State futurities in 1981. “She won all her money the hard way,” said Bubba Cascio, who trained Dashingly and plans to attend Retama’s ceremonies Saturday. “She’d run in stakes out there in California and there would always be five or six big studs in there. She was a really nice mare. She was just a special animal. She ran her heart out every time.” Dashingly was Quarter Horse racing’s first female runner to reach $1 million in earnings, according to the AQHA. She also held the breed’s title of all-time leading female earner from 1983-2007. Dashingly was a daughter of the Cascio-trained Dash for Cash. She was bred in California, and her owner at the time of her death was Dallas resident Baxter Brinkmann. Dashingly is scheduled to be inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame in 2014.
