Retama Park near San Antonio has scheduled six stakes races for its Thoroughbred meet, according to racing secretary James Leatherman. The season opens Sept. 2. Retama will race 26 dates through Nov. 26.The El Joven and La Senorita, one&#45;mile turf races for 2&#45;year&#45;olds, will share a card Oct. 15. The purse for each race is $75,000. Leatherman said the next round of nominations closes Aug. 12. The $50,000 Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame Stakes and the $50,000 Fiesta Mile will share a program Oct. 29. The Hall of Fame is a 1 1/16&#45;mile turf race for 3&#45;year&#45;olds and up bred in Texas. The Fiesta Mile also will be run on the grass, and it is restricted to fillies and mares bred in Texas. The Texas Stallion Stakes series will be run Nov. 5, with a pair of six&#45;furlong divisions for 2&#45;year&#45;olds. Each race will be worth $65,000. ◗ The New Mexico Racing Summit, designed to bring together all of the state&rsquo;s industry stakeholders, is scheduled for Tuesday at Ruidoso Downs. The agenda for the meeting includes drug&#45;testing protocols, workers&rsquo; compensation rules, and race dates.
