Rerun pulls 21-1 upset in Miami Mile

Rerun, the second longest price on the board at 21-1, rallied down the center of the course under a perfectly judged ride by Jose Caraballo to upset the 2-1 favorite Grand Tito in Saturday’s $100,000 Miami Mile at Gulfstream Park.
The Grade 3 Miami Mile was decided over a turf course officially called “firm” but which was soaked by heavy rains prior to the race and eventually downgraded to “yielding” shortly thereafter.
Rerun, who shipped down to Gulfstream Park off an allowance win over his home course at Tampa Bay Downs, raced well-placed off the early pace of Storming Inti before angling out at the top of the stretch and finishing best of all to post a half-length decision for his first graded stakes win. Grand Tito, steadied early, rallied to overtake the tiring Storming Inti between calls near midstretch but could not withstand the winner.
Shatak rallied belatedly to finish third, a head in front of Storming Inti. He was followed by Inchcape, Adios Nardo, McIlroy, Hammers Terror, and Sette E Mezzo. Middleburg was scratched due to the wet conditions.
A 6-year-old son of Grand Reward, Rerun is trained by Chad Stewart for World Thoroughbreds Racing Inc. He paid $44.
Baffle Me scores in Powder Break
Baffle Me took advantage of the late scratch of the likely odds on favorite Discreet Marq to win the $75,000 Powder Break over a course downgraded to “yielding” before the race.
Baffle Me, a multiple stakes-winning daughter of First Samurai, rallied from off the pace to defeat the late-running E B Ryder with pacesetter Big N Toasty finishing a tiring third. Baffle Me, as the 6-5 favorite, replaced Discreet Marq on all live Rainbow 6 and other multi-race wager tickets.
Baffle Me, a troubled fourth in the Grade 2 Honey Fox in her 2015 debut, is trained by Mark Hennig for owner Lee Lewis.
Royal Squeeze wins Tarpon on DQ
Mr. Jordan, the 2-5 favorite, crossed the finish line first but was disqualified and placed second, making Royal Squeeze the winner of the $60,000 Tarpon Stakes. Royal Squeeze, making his first start for trainer Marty Wolfson, paid $15.80 as the second choice in the one-mile overnight stakes for 3-year-olds.
Saturday’s card was also highlighted by the mandatory payoff of the Rainbow 6, which returned $14,504 for all six winners. A total of $5.67 million in new money was wagered into the pool, easily surpassing the old mark of $3.5 million set in 2011.
