Reride takes narrow Big Drama victory

Reride became the latest stakes winner for his breeder and owner Winchell Thoroughbreds when he fought for a nose victory in the $60,000 Big Drama for 3-year-olds Saturday night at Delta Downs.
Double Star, who finished second in the two-turn race, was disqualified for interference in the stretch and placed third. The action of the stewards elevated Bobby’s Wicked One to second in the Big Drama.
The Big Drama was one of two stakes on the card. Medal of Courage ($5.20) won the $50,000 Fremont.
Reride ($4.60) tracked Land Battle through fractions of 24.39 seconds for the opening quarter and 49.01 for the half-mile, overtook the leader, and was in a tight battle to the wire to cover seven furlongs on a fast track in 1:26.69.
Following the race, Miguel Mena, the rider of Bobby’s Wicked One, claimed foul against the top two finishers, but the stewards made just one disqualification, of runner-up Double Star.
Diego Saenz rode Reride for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Reride is a son of Candy Ride who improved his career record to 3 for 4 with his first career stakes win Saturday. He has now earned $106,220.
Reride represents a productive family for the Winchell Thoroughbreds breeding program. His dam, Remit, was a multiple stakes winner for the owner and is a full sister to one of the operation’s notable runners, Tapiture, a multiple Grade 2 winner of $1.5 million.
Medal of Courage was always prominent for a 1 3/4-length win over Forerun in the Fremont. The winner covered five-eighths of a mile in 57.98 seconds, the final time the fastest for the distance this meet, according to Don Stevens, the announcer at Delta.
Timothy Thornton rode Medal of Courage for trainer Eduardo Ramirez. Medal of Courage is a son of Warrior’s Reward who races for Maury Harrington and Christopher Harrington.
