Reopening date still not set for Golden Gate Fields as COVID-19 outbreak continues to be monitored
Racing will not resume at Golden Gate Fields on Thursday as track management had hoped, with the track remaining shut down because of a COVID-19 outbreak.
Racing was canceled for one week on Nov. 13 with the shutdown later extended through Nov. 30.
“At this time, our reopening is still up in the air,” said racing secretary Patrick Mackey.

Golden Gate does not have its final condition book for the meeting posted online, and as of Monday entries had not been taken for Thursday or Friday. The Golden Gate meet is scheduled to end on Dec. 13.
More testing has been done of backstretch workers and Golden Gate employees, and Golden Gate is working closely with the city of Berkeley. The Berkeley Public Health Division and Golden Gate track physician David Seftel are reviewing the test results in hopes of determining when the track can safely resume racing.
All 1,300 horses stabled at Golden Gate Fields continue to receive daily care, and the Stronach Group, owner of Golden Gate Fields, continues strict clean-up and sanitizing procedures.
The track was closed for two months earlier this year beginning in late March.
