Renegade, the current favorite for the May 2 Kentucky Derby, has been installed as the 10-1 favorite for a future wager pool tied to the May 16 Preakness Stakes at Laurel Park, according to the Maryland Jockey Club, which is administering the pool. The Preakness Future Wager will open at noon on Friday and close approximately half an hour prior to post time for the Kentucky Derby on May 2. Only win betting will be allowed, and the minimum bet is $2. Renegade, who is 4-1 on Daily Racing Form’s morning line for the Derby, is one of 39 individual horses listed in the Preakness pool, with a final entrant including “all other 3-year-olds” in the 2023 crop. Renegade has won both of his starts this year, the Sam F. Davis Stakes and the Arkansas Derby.  Three horses are listed at 12-1 on the morning line, which was prepared by Horse Racing Nation: Crude Velocity, a Bob Baffert trainee who has won two 6 1/2-furlong races at Santa Anita, one with a 100 Beyer Speed Figure; Further Ado, the dominating Blue Grass Stakes winner who is co-second choice in the Derby, according to DRF; and Taj Mahal, who received a free berth in the Preakness after winning the Federico Tesio Stakes at Laurel on April 18.  This year’s Preakness is being held at Laurel Park due to ongoing renovations at Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore. :: DRF Kentucky Derby Package: Save on Past Performances, Clocker Reports, Betting Strategies, and more.
