LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Renay Borel notched the first win of her training career when Flatoutandfoxy rallied to win the fifth race Wednesday at Churchill. Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel, the trainer’s husband, was aboard the 3-year-old filly for owner Carson McCord. Renay Borel, 32, is a native of Bradenton, Fla. She had worked for years as an exercise rider prior to bearing the couple’s son, Chase, in September 2017. Renay Borel has four horses in her care at the nearby Trackside training center, left over from when Calvin’s older brother Cecil retired last month when ending a short-lived comeback. Cecil Borel had been out of racing for more than four years when he returned to training in February. Calvin Borel, who celebrated his 53rd birthday Thursday, is a three-time Kentucky Derby winner with 5,250 career victories. He gave his wife a kiss and a long hug after dismounting Flatoutandfoxy in the winner’s circle. “I’m just so proud of her,” he said.
