Remington: Von Hemel strikes again

Trainer Donnie Von Hemel continued his dominance of the Remington Park stakes program when he sent out Best of K C to win the $150,000 Edward J. DeBartolo Memorial Breeders' Cup. A day earlier, Von Hemel, who has won more than 100 stakes at Remington Park, captured the $50,000 Ricks Memorial Handicap with Darlin Dixie.

Best of K C ($8.20), ridden by Don Pettinger, broke sharply in the DeBartolo, and led the field throughout in the 1 3/8-mile turf race, holding off the late surge of Esperence by a half-length. It was another 2 1/2 lengths back in third to Rebridled. Best of K C covered the distance over firm turf in 2:15.16.

Best of K C earned $90,000 for the victory, which improved his career totals to 6 wins from 19 starts and earnings of $226,322.
