Remington sets Okla. Derby for Sept. 29, Springboard Mile for Dec. 15
Remington Park has set the dates for its richest Thoroughbred races, the Oklahoma Derby and Springboard Mile, while releasing its stakes schedule. Each race is worth $400,000. The Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby will be run Sept. 29. The Springboard Mile, a points race for the Kentucky Derby, is set for Dec. 15.
Remington opens its 67-date Thoroughbred season Aug. 23. The meet runs through Dec. 15. There will be 32 stakes worth a cumulative $3.7 million.
The Oklahoma Derby, at 1 1/8 miles, will anchor a card of eight stakes worth $1.1 million. The program includes the Grade 3, $200,000 Remington Park Oaks. Last year, the first graded running of the 1 1/16-mile Oaks was won by She’s a Julie, who has since captured the Grade 1 La Troienne.
The Springboard Mile, for 2-year-olds, will be part of a card of six races that includes the $100,000 Trapeze for 2-year-old fillies at a mile. Other highlights of the stakes schedule include the $175,000 Governor’s Cup for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles on Aug. 23 and the $1 million Oklahoma Classics Night program of eight divisional stakes for Oklahoma-breds on Oct. 18.
