Remington Park track report

Mr Ross, one of the top handicap horses in the region, will make a rare start around one turn Monday in the $30,000 Silver Bullet Centennial Stakes at Remington Park in Oklahoma City.

Mr Ross won the seven-furlong Silver Bullet Centennial last year, and with the victory improved his record around one turn to 2 for 3. His chief rivals Sunday are three sprinters who won stakes in their last starts: Medium Rare, Dance and Dazzle, and That Tat.

Mr Ross passed $1 million in earnings in January when he won the $100,000 Maxxam Gold Cup at Sam Houston Race Park. He returned to win the Grade 3, $100,000 Razorback Handicap at Oaklawn in his next start, and after finishing an uncharacteristic seventh in the Grade 1 Oaklawn Handicap on April 6 was given some time off by owner Don McNeill and trainer Donnie Von Hemel.

The Silver Bullet will be his first start since then, and his class, coupled with the fact that he tends to run well fresh, should make him imposing under Robert Lester.

Leading rider Cliff Berry will be aboard Medium Rare, who won the $30,000 Taliaferro Memorial at Remington Park in his last start. His strength is his will to win, said trainer Roger Engel, who manages Medium Rare, a 13-time winner for owner J. D. R. Stables.

Adding to the depth of the six-horse Silver Bullet is Dance and Dazzle, who is after his fourth straight win Sunday - and his third in a stakes - and That Tat, winner of the $40,000 Folklore at Louisiana Downs on Aug. 16.
