Remington Park: Stallion stakes filly division loaded with speed
There is ample speed in the $50,000 fillies division of the Oklahoma Stallion Stakes at Remington Park on Friday, but Heykittykittykitty might be the quickest of the lot. She is one of nine in the six-furlong race that also drew stakes winners Okie Smokey and Mama’s Mad Money.
On the same card, which has a special afternoon post of 1:30 p.m. Central, the $50,000 colts and geldings division of the Oklahoma Stallion Stakes will be led by Alpha and Omega. Both races are restricted to 2-year-olds by stallions nominated to the Oklahoma Stallion Stakes program.
Heykittykittykitty went hoof-to-hoof with arguably the meet’s top 2-year-old filly, Beau Ravelle, in a $75,000 optional-claiming sprint at Remington on Nov. 13. They blitzed through an opening half-mile in 44.80 seconds before Beau Ravelle went on to cover six furlongs in a sharp 1:10.60. Heykittykittykitty, who ducked in during the stretch run, finished 3 1/2 lengths back in second.
“She was right there with Beau Ravelle all the way, and down the stretch she got a little green, wanted to look around and kind of ducked in a little to the inside,” owner Danny Caldwell said of his Heykittykittykitty. “I don’t know if she would have got by the other filly – the other filly is really nice. I think she could have been right there with her on the line.”
Heykittykittykitty, trained by Federico Villafranco, earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 73, which is the best career number in Friday’s field. She will break from post 4, outside of fellow front-runners Color of Truth, Don’tcloseureyes, and Aunt Sissy. Heykittykittykitty is to be ridden by Jose Medina.
“She’s a fast filly,” Caldwell said. “I think she wants to go.”
Caldwell, the leading owner at Remington, purchased Heykittykittykitty privately this spring. She debuted Oct. 26 and won a $15,000 maiden claiming sprint by more than 10 lengths. Her other career start came in the optional claimer. Heykittykittykitty is a daughter of Tactical Cat.
“I liked her looks, the way she was put together, and she was an Okie-bred eligible for the Classics and the Stallion Stakes,” Caldwell said.
Okie Smokey won the $88,000 Oklahoma Classics Lassie in October, closing for a half-length win in the six-furlong race run at Remington. Mama’s Mad Money defeated males in the $75,000 Iowa Stallion Futurity in July, when she used front-running tactics at Prairie Meadows.
