Remington Park opens Quarter Horse meet with stakes trials
Remington Park in Oklahoma City opens a 50-date meet for Quarter Horses on Friday night. The 12-race program includes trial races for the Grade 3, $225,750 Oklahoma Derby. First post is 6 p.m. Central.
The opener drew 123 horses, for an average field size of more than 10 horses.
The meet continues through June 1.
The card Saturday night will include trials for the Grade 2 Oklahoma Futurity, which last year was worth $371,200. The finale is March 23.
Other highlights of the season include the Grade 1, $1 million-estimated Heritage Place Futurity and the Grade 1, $250,000 Remington Park Invitational Championship. The races will share a June 1 card worth more than $2 million. Trials for the Heritage Place will be held May 10-11.
The Grade 1 Remington Park Futurity, set for April 20, had a purse of $864,500 in 2018.
