Remington Park notes: Springboard Mile field taking shape

Noble Cornerstone, a flashy debut winner at Aqueduct for trainer Wesley Ward, is among eight or nine probables for the $250,000 Springboard Mile for 2-year-olds at Remington Park on Sunday, said Don Thompson, stakes coordinator for the Oklahoma City track. Noble Cornerstone on Thursday was scheduled to fly in from his Keeneland base.
Thompson said he also looks for multiple stakes winners Boji Moon and Smack Smack to be part of the field for the Springboard, as well as Remington allowance winner Louies Flower; Larry Jones-trainee Divine View; and the graded stakes-placed Guns Loaded.
Texas Bling won last year’s Springboard Mile over Will Take Charge, who would go on to capture this year’s Travers, Pennsylvania Derby, and Clark Handicap.
The Springboard will be one of four stakes on Sunday’s card. The purse for the new Trapeze, a one-mile race for 2-year-old fillies, has been reduced from $100,000 to $50,000. Probables include the stakes-placed Dream S’more for trainer Eric Reed.
Remington meet extended
Remington has added two dates to its schedule in a move that extends the meet to Tuesday. The track was to close on Sunday, but a winter storm cost Remington three cards last week.
The meet’s final week will now run five consecutive days, beginning Friday night. There will also be night racing Saturday, while post for the Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday cards will be 1:30 p.m. Central.
Jockey Luis Quinonez enters the meet’s final week with a one-win lead in the standings over Ramon Vazquez, 58-57. Steve Asmussen leads all Remington trainers in wins, with 36. Danny Caldwell has locked up the owners’ title with 24 wins through Wednesday.
** Heritage Place in Oklahoma City will put on its second annual Thoroughbred mixed sale on Saturday. The auction will begin at 11 a.m. Central. There are 135 head catalogued to the sale that features broodmares, yearlings, horses of racing age, and the stallion Dance Master.
