Remington offers 50-cent exotic wagers for Quarter Horse meet
Remington Park in Oklahoma City will open its 50-date Quarter Horse meet Friday night with reduced minimums on three of its wagers in a new format that will extend to the Thoroughbred season, according to Remington spokesman Dale Day. The meet for Quarter Horses will run through May 30, with the track’s Thoroughbred season to start in August.
Remington will offer 50-cent minimums on trifectas, pick threes, and a pick four that comprises the final four races of each program. The previous minimum on the wagers was $1. It is the first time Remington is offering a 50-cent minimum on wagers on a regular basis, according to a release. The track opened in 1988.
“Remington Park racing has enjoyed a renewed enthusiasm in recent years,” said Matt Vance, vice president of racing and wagering for Remington. “Lowering the trifecta, pick three and Primetime Pick 4 to 50 cents allows us the opportunity to elevate the winning experience for all who play our races.”
Remington’s meet boasts a $5.3 million stakes schedule, with three major futurities among the main events. The first is the Grade 2, $350,000 Oklahoma Futurity on March 21. There will be 15 trials to determine its 10 finalists on Saturday, when there is a special first post of 5 p.m. Central. The Oklahoma Futurity is the longest running futurity in Quarter Horse racing as it has been held continuously since 1947, according to a release from Remington. It will have its 74th running in 2015.
The second major race for 2-year-olds is the Grade 2, $775,000 Remington Park Futurity on April 18. The final offering for the division is the Grade 1, $1 million Heritage Place Futurity on May 30. The Heritage Place anchors a closing-night program of eight stakes, including the Grade 1, $250,000 Remington Park Championship. Trials for the Heritage Place Futurity will be run over two dates, on May 8-9.
