Remington handle rises slightly

Remington Park in Oklahoma City closed out its 65-date Thoroughbred meet Dec. 5 with gains in attendance and handle.

Remington handled an average from all sources of $364,030 daily on its live races, an increase of less than 1 percent over last year, while average daily attendance was up 2.7 percent to 1,589. Daily purses at the track rose 9.9 percent to $83,000, and the average field size was 9.4 horses, up from 9.0 in 2003.

Oklahoma voters approved electronic gaming at the track in the November general election, and a timeline for the installation of gaming devices could be released as early as January.

* The Oklahoma Racing Commission on Thursday approved a revised dates calendar for Fair Meadows in Tulsa. The track will race 32 mixed dates for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses next year, from May 26 to July 23.
