Remembertobreathe tries to double up in feature
Remembertobreathe paid $24.20 when he won a $3,500 starter race that carried a $7,500 claiming option at Emerald Downs in his latest start. He will not be nearly as big a price when he comes back at the same level and distance at Emerald on Saturday.
But he won’t be the favorite in the one-mile race for 3-year-olds and up, which drew eight horses and goes as race 7 on an eight race card that begins at 6:30 p.m. Pacific.
The Robert Baze-trained Remembertobreathe took advantage of an honest and somewhat contested pace when he won for the 15th time on July 17. With Alex Anya riding, the 10-year-old Florida-bred gelding by D’wildcat bided his time along the rail while Buckley Bay was being chased by Silver Fury through six furlongs in 1:10.75. He skimmed the rail while moving into contention on the stretch turn and stayed there when he surged to the lead late to edge Pistol Power by a half-length.

Saturday rivals Speedy Green and Missed the Boat each is coming off a front-running win, so the same scenario could unfold for Remembertobreathe, who has two wins and two runner-up finishes in four starts at the meet. He has won back-to-back races three times in his 89-race career, so he is capable of stringing strong races together.
He will break from the outside post with Anya aboard.
Missed the Boat will likely be favored off of his 9 1/2-length romp over Remembertobreathe in an open $5,000 claimer on July 3. He dueled with Gentle Prince through a quick half-mile time of 45.43 seconds before taking control of the one-mile race for trainer Blaine Wright.
A 5-year-old Kentucky-bred gelding by Midshipman, Missed the Boat was claimed out of the race by trainer Kay Cooper, who was acting on behalf of Lyle W. Conway.
It was a rare move by Cooper, who claimed eight horses the past five years and just one in 2020. Two of the eight came back to win, but none since 2017.
Missed the Boat will be tough to beat if he runs as well as he did in his last race, and he may have tipped his hand when he worked a bullet five furlongs in 1:01 on July 26.
He will break from post 7 with leading rider Alex Cruz retaining the mount.
Pistol Power stalked the pace and took over the lead in the stretch before being run down by Remembertobreathe on July 17. He was making his first start for trainer Candy Cryderman, who claimed the 7-year-old Washington-bred son of War Power from trainer Rigoberto Velasquez out of a win for $6,250 June 17.
Velasquez, who won three races with Pistol Power after claiming him for $3,500 Sept. 20, took him right back.
Julien Couton will be aboard Pistol Power for the first time when he breaks from post 6. A nine-time winner from 32 starts, Pistol Power has a 2-4-1 record from eight starts at the one-mile distance. At the very least, he should be part of any exotics ticket.
