ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Last Thursday at Woodbine was memorable for Emma-Jayne Wilson as she surpassed Julie Krone as the leading money-winning female jockey of all time. Wilson rides probable favorite Reload’s Rebel in this Thursday’s featured fifth race for nonwinners-of-three Ontario-sired allowance types and $40,000 claimers at 6 1/2 furlongs on the main turf course. Reload’s Rebel notched his first two starts in the spring of last year before tailing off in the fall. He resurfaced this year with trainer Darwin Banach, with whom Wilson won her first stakes aboard Classic Stamp in the 2005 Canadian. Normally a front-runner, Reload’s Rebel was squeezed at the break in his June 16 comeback under Wilson before rallying from sixth for second on the Tapeta. The 6-year-old received a career-high 80 Beyer Speed Figure. “He was a little off the bit the first bit,” Wilson said. “I wasn’t too worried about it, because we knew there was quite a bit of [other] pace in there. We were happy with the way he settled and ran on. He’s really come around. Darwin’s done a wonderful job with him. He got him early in the spring, along with his brother [Reload’s Rascal], and he seems to know them intimately.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets. The fifth race lured a field of eight that also includes the Kevin Attard-trained 4-year-olds Fabled Prince and Pat’s Gamble. Fabled Prince lacked room along the inside on the turn when a non-threatening seventh last time out in an open allowance. He earned an 82 Beyer when dusting nonwinners-of-two Ontario-sired allowance opposition in his May 12 season opener. Sahin Civaci inherits the mount from the departed Kazushi Kimura on Fabled Prince, who is shareless in four turf starts. Pat’s Gamble graduated in his final 2023 appearance in December before getting the winter off. He came off the sidelines as a new gelding May 26 and promptly won his first turf start under a ground-saving ride from apprentice Pietro Moran against nonwinners-of-two Ontario-sired stock. Valyrian Sky could set the pace with outsider Valley Victory in close proximity. Valyrian Sky was protected by a wavier when narrowly losing a $25,000 maiden claimer in his May 23 seasonal bow. When moving out from six to seven furlongs against tougher nonwinners-of-two opponents two weeks later, he wired the field with a 74 Beyer under Jose Campos. Banach also entered longshot It’s a Fluke, who is stepping up off a belated third in a fast-paced five-furlong dash for $25,000 claimers. Musical Spell was beaten double digits in both of his winter excursions at Fair Grounds before displaying improving form here in the spring for trainer Steve Flint. Sooner Lunar, winless in his last dozen races, fought for the lead before fading to third behind King’s Plate prospect No More Options in his comeback on the inner turf. He finished up the track behind runner-up Musical Spell most recently at this level but could rebound with a competitive performance. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
