Reload’s feet good to go for Lure stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Reload was running with King Kreesa from the top of the stretch to the eighth pole in last month’s Forbidden Apple Stakes when all of a sudden he couldn’t keep up.
“I thought he probably bled,” trainer Shug McGaughey said.
As it turned out, Reload blew the frogs, the bottom part of a foot that acts like a shock absorber, on all four of his feet. He has been training with bar shoes on his front feet, and on Tuesday he breezed a solid half-mile in 48.61 seconds over the Oklahoma track in preparation for Saturday’s $100,000 Lure Stakes at 1 1/16 miles.
McGaughey said the frogs healed quickly and that Reload will not race with the bar shoes Saturday. Prior to the Forbidden Apple, Reload had won his three previous turf starts.
Among those scheduled to face Reload in the Lure are Fixador, Fredericksburg, Grand Tito, Hollywood Idol, Sycamore Lane, Under Control, and Vyjack.
