Reid looking for more stakes success this weekend

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The Parx-based trainer Butch Reid hopes Eloquist’s nose victory in Sunday’s $150,000 Discovery Stakes is just the start of a big week for him in New York stakes.
Reid will be back at Aqueduct on Saturday with Foggy Night in the Grade 2, $250,000 Demoiselle for 2-year-old fillies and Dr B in the Grade 3, $200,000 Go for Wand for fillies and mares.
Both Foggy Night and Dr B are coming off second-place finishes in Aqueduct stakes earlier this fall. Foggy Night finished second to Good Sam in the Tempted Stakes here on Nov. 6 while Dr B was second to Boston Post Road in the Pumpkin Pie Stakes on Oct. 29.
Foggy Night, a daughter of Khozan, won a mile and 70-yard maiden race at Parx on Oct. 19 by 11 1/4 lengths before finishing second to Good Sam in the one-mile Tempted. The Demoiselle is run at 1 1/8-miles.
“I don’t think they can write them far enough for her,” Reid said. “I think the mile and an eighth is going to be right up her alley.”
Dr B finished a hard-trying second behind odds-on favorite Boston Post Road in the Pumpkin Pie in just her second race going seven furlongs. Saturday, she will try one mile for the first time.

“We’re real excited about her. I think the one-turn mile might suit her perfectly,” Reid said. “She’s been getting better and better all summer long.”
Meanwhile, Eloquist’s nose victory over Barese in the Discovery was his third straight victory and fourth from six starts since being gelded following an unproductive winter in South Florida.
“He’s been a different horse since he’s come back,” Reid said. “He’s never been a bad-acting horse, which is why we didn’t do it early. He just wasn’t focusing. Since we did that, he’s really filled out and now he’s a bigger, strong horse. He’s got a nice barrel on him and a nice hind end.”
Reid said he wasn’t sure if Eloquist would run once more this year or get a break.
Reid said he will not keep a string of horses in Florida this winter, so he may be even more of a presence in New York than in winters past, shipping up from his Parx base.
“I think I’ve got some nice 2-year-old fillies turning 3 and some nice 2-year-old colts turning 3, so hopefully you’ll be seeing a lot of them,” Reid said.
