Registrant comes out of productive race for second start of year
The 3-year-old filly Registrant ran a decent third in an allowance race in her first start of 2021 at Los Alamitos on Jan. 2, losing by three-quarters of a length to 2-1 favorite Republic Anne.
The race has provided Registrant with ideal preparation for her second start of the young year in an allowance race at 330 yards on Friday. The eight-race program at Los Alamitos on Friday marks the return of racing for the first time since Jan. 31. The track did not race last weekend, which has been customary in recent years on Super Bowl weekend.
Registrant, owned and bred by Los Alamitos chairman Ed Allred, has had two starts. She won a maiden race at 300 yards last June, but did not race again in 2020.
The Jan. 2 allowance race has been productive race. Runner-up AP a Special Takeoff returned to win a division of the Los Alamitos Winter Derby trials on Jan. 23, earning a berth in Saturday’s $203,950 final.

Registrant, trained by Scott Willoughby, breaks from post 6 in a field of eight in Friday’s allowance race. The filly started from the rail position in a field of seven on Jan. 2.
Registrant has the least experience in Friday’s field.
The race will be the eighth start for Powerline Road, who was second in a productive allowance race on Jan. 2. Race winner Ilhusion Eagle returned to win a division of the Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes trials on Jan. 31 and will be favored in the final on Feb. 21.
Powerline Road, trained by Mike Casselman, is winless in six starts since a maiden race last June. The recent second was her best result in starts against winners.
The Allred-Willoughby team also start No Questions, who was third as the 8-5 favorite in an allowance race at 350 yards on Jan. 17 in his sixth start. One Sweet Venom, second in that race, has the outside post in Friday’s allowance race.
