Regent n’Flashy, dam of Big Red Mike, dies at 21

Regent n’Flashy, the dam of 2010 Queen’s Plate winner and Canadian champion Big Red Mike, has died, according to an announcement by owner Dom Romero’s Terra Farms.

The 21-year-old daughter of Vice Regent was bred in Ontario by Terra Farms and was unraced. She was bred to Smart Strike for her first mating at age 3 and was offered in foal at the 1998 Keeneland November breeding stock sale, but finished under her reserve with a final bid of $90,000.

The foal in utero was Classic Mike, a stakes-placed gelding who was the dam’s first of nine winners from as many foals to race.

Regent n’Flashy’s best runner was Big Red Mike, who won the 2010 Queen’s Plate Stakes and Plate Trial Stakes and finished third in the Prince of Wales Stakes en route to a Sovereign Award as champion 3-year-old male. The gelded son of Tenpins raced as a homebred for Romero, winning 4 of 16 starts for earnings of $859,280.

The mare also produced Flashy Got Even, a daughter of Stephen Got Even who was runner-up in the 2009 Bison City Stakes at Woodbine, the second leg of Canada’s Filly Triple Crown.

Regent n’Flashy has a yearling Lookin At Lucky colt and a 2-year-old Curlin filly named Flashy’s Legacy.
