Regal Riot paid a generous $11.40 for his three-quarter-length victory over heavily favored Gunfighter in the $50,000 Chris Loseth on Sunday at Hastings.

Regal Riot was coming off a win over Soaringforthesun and Gunfighter going 6 1/2 furlongs in the $50,000 Ross McLeod on June 11 and was sent off as the third choice in the wagering in the 1 1/16-mile Loseth where he was going a middle distance for the first time.

With Efrain Hernandez riding for trainer Robbie Anderson, Regal Riot sat just off Soarinforthesun who posted a moderate half-mile in 49.25 seconds. He collared the leader on the stretch turn and took command turning for home. Gunfighter moved into a stalking position while going three wide down the backstretch, made a strong move around the final turn, got within a head of Regal Riot at the top of the stretch, but could not get past the winner. Soaringforthesun held on to finish a clear third over Better Tone.

The final time was 1:44.56.

A British Columbia-bred gelding by Jersey Town, Regal Riot races for Kim Peacock and Lance Giesbrecht.

In the co-featured $50,000 Supernaturel, U Did It rebounded from her only loss in the $50,000 River Rock Casino on June 11 with a convincing win in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-old fillies. She paid $4.20 for her 2 1/2-length victory over Belcarra Park.

U Did It broke sharply and was strangled back by Antonio Reyes early. She was rank going into the first turn, but Reyes was able to settle her into a stalking position going into the second turn. She tracked Belcarra Park through a half-mile in 47.53, engaged the leader on the stretch turn, and took control in midstretch. Belcarra Park set the pace, could not keep up with the winner, but was able to hold off Shamra by a head.

The final time was 1:45.76.

It was the sixth victory in seven starts for the British Columbia-bred daughter of Teide, and the winner’s share of the purse brought her earnings to $123,500. U Did It is trained by Edgar Mendoza and races for John Anderson.
