Redneck Humor running for diaper money in Budweiser Special

Vanessa Evans delivered five weeks ago. Now, her horse will attempt to do the same.
Redneck Humor is chasing his fifth consecutive stakes victory Saturday night in the $55,000 Budweiser Special at The Downs at Albuquerque. His bid to keep his streak alive comes on the heels of Evans delivering twins – a boy, Anderson, and a girl, Addison.
“There’s definitely some added pressure,” joked Vanessa Evans’s husband, trainer Justin Evans. “We need to buy a lot of diapers!”
The Budweiser is a 6 1/2-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up. The field of seven includes Takeit Tothe Limit, who is shooting for his fourth straight win; Toews On Ice, a Grade 3 winner; and Tanner’s Popsicle, who last raced at Churchill Downs.

◗ Redneck Humor’s streak of stakes wins started in February in the $75,000 Budweiser Handicap at Sunland Park. He proceeded to capture the $100,000 Bill Thomas Memorial at that track in March, the $30,000 Inaugural in April at SunRay Park, and the $30,000 Arapahoe Park Sprint in his last start May 29.
“He’s been great this year,” said Justin Evans. “He’s been razor-sharp.”
◗ Redneck Humor won on the cutback from two turns in the Arapahoe Park Sprint in Colorado. He rallied for a 3 1/4-length win in the five-furlong race to improve to 4 for 4 this year.
“The other day at Arapahoe, he got away a little slow, circled them,” Evans said. “He’s settled into Albuquerque, breezed a really sharp six furlongs from the gate. He’s been great.”
◗ Redneck Humor, who also races for Earl Neugebauer and K.W. Sharp, will break from post 4 under David Lopez.
“It’s going to be a fast pace,” Evans said. “It looks like it to me. Takeit Tothe Limit is extremely fast, so there’s going to be a little pace in there.”
◗ Evans said he plans to back off Redneck Humor following the Budweiser Special in order to freshen the horse for a Zia Park campaign. There are a pair of stakes to target at the Hobbs, N.M., track that opens in September, the Premiere Cup and the Zia Park Sprint.
