Redistricting, runner-up in the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap at Del Mar on Nov. 30, will not make the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf on Jan. 25, Brown said.
“He had a minor setback,” Brown said. “He’s going to be fine but now I’m considering taking my time and starting his season possibly in a race like the [Muniz Memorial Classic].”
The Grade 2, $300,000 Muniz is run at Fair Grounds on March 22.
Redistricting joins Johannes as recent defections from the Pegasus Turf. A third and final list of invitees is scheduled to be released Wednesday by the Gulfstream Park racing office. The Brown-trained Running Bee and the Simon Callaghan-trained Astronomer are expected to move onto the invitee list from the alternate list.
As of Monday, the Pegasus World Cup was expected to include Balnikhov, Battle of Normandy, Formidable Man, Grand Sonata, Integration, Major Dude, Mi Hermano Ramon, Nations Pride, and Win for the Money. Mark Casse, trainer of Win for the Money, said Monday he was not sure if he was going to run Get Smokin in the race.
Meanwhile, Brown said he is definitely pointing Fluffy Socks to the Grade 2, $500,000 Pegasus Filly and Mare Turf but is uncertain whether or not Prerequisite will run there.
