Red Route One retired to stud after $550,000 purchase

Multiple graded stakes winner Red Route One will be retired to stud after selling for $550,000 to Narvick International during the Fasig-Tipton July horses of racing age sale.

Agent Emmanuel de Seroux, who signed the ticket, said a stallion location has not yet been secured for the 5-year-old son of Gun Runner but confirmed he will not race again.

Red Route One, who raced as a homebred for Winchell Thoroughbreds, was consigned to the sale by Taylor Made Sales, as agent. Red Route One concludes his career with a record of 28-6-4-3 and earnings of $2,165,107.

He was a graded winner in three consecutive years, taking the 2023 Bathhouse Row Stakes and Grade 3 West Virginia Derby; the Grade 2 New Orleans Classic and Grade 3 Cornhusker Handicap last year; and the Grade 3 Essex Handicap earlier this year. He placed in seven other stakes.

“He’s a beautiful horse and he has quite a lot of attributes to be a successful stallion,” de Seroux said. “He’s been very consistent with some of the best horses in the country . . . he’s a very tough racehorse, very classy.”

Red Route One is a full brother to stakes winner Red Run. They are out of the unraced Tapit mare Red House, a full sister to champion Untapable.
