Red Mile: Venerable seeks to rebound on Sunday
On Sunday afternoon (Aug. 14) The Red Mile will host two $80,000 second round legs of the Kentucky Championship Series, three $30,000 second legs of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series and six $15,000 second round legs of the Kentucky Golden Rod series for freshman and sophomore filly trotters and pacers on the 14-race card.
Champion Venerable seeks to return to her winning ways after an eighth-place finish in the $500,000 Hambletonian Oaks on Aug. 6 in the second Championship Series leg for trotting fillies.
Venerable (David Miller) will leave from post position six in a field of 10 in race 12. The daughter of Walner-Jolene Jolene captured her elimination over Oaks winner Fashion Schooner. The filly, however, committed a costly break in the final as the public's second choice. Trained by Nifty Norman, Venerable is 7-2 on the morning line. The filly is owned by David McDuffee, Melvin Hartman, Paul Bordogna and Steven Arnold. Her record stands at 18-12-2-1 and she has banked $1.12 million.
The three Commonwealth divisions consist of two sections for 2-year-old pacing fillies and one division for 3-year-old trotting fillies.
The six Golden Rod divisions are comprised of three splits for 2-year-old pacing fillies and three flights for 3-year-old filly trotters.
