Red Mile: Two for Gingras, two for McCarthy in Corbin Maturity Series finals

Andy McCarthy and Yannick Gingras each won a pair of $70,000 Corbin Maturity Series finals for 4-year-olds of both sexes and gaits on Tuesday afternoon at The Red Mile.
Beltassima and McCarthy won the mare trot in 1:54 2/5 after leading through fractions of 29, 57 3/5, and 1:26 3/5. Awesome Trix (Tony Hall) gained late after a pocket trip but came up a neck short in second, and Jazzy Jules (Christian Lind) finished third.
Trained by Tony Alagna, Beltassima is a Trixton mare owned by Crawford Farms LLC. This was her 14th career victory, and she has now earned $550,447. She was the 1-9 favorite and paid $2.10 to win.
In the mare pace Ahoy (Gingras) put up the 27 4/5 quarter and 54 3/5 half but was overtaken by a first-up Classicist (McCarthy) beyond the latter marker. Classicist held the top spot at the 1:21 3/5 three-quarters, but Gingras brought Ahoy to the outside past that station and surged back into the lead in the stretch. From there, Ahoy had to hold off a rallying Awesome Hill (Andy Miller), which she was able to do by a neck in 1:50 3/5. Classicist ended up third.
Ron Burke trains Ahoy, a daughter of Captaintreacherous, for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., and Frank Canzone. She made her 13th appearance in the winner's circle, has now pocketed $190,459, and returned $25.60 to win as an 11-1 shot.
Gingras was right back for another triumph in the horse and gelding trot with Kildare King. Kildare King wrestled the lead away from Flemsteen (Dexter Dunn) after the 27 4/5 quarter and then let a two-wide Venerate (A. Miller) go to the front past the 54 2/5 half. Venerate would go on to chop out three-quarters in 1:21 3/5 and turned for home first, but Gingras swung Kildare King to the outside coming off the final bend.
Kildare King and Venerate would battle through the drive, but Kildare King had the better kick in the final eighth and got up to win by half a length in 1:50 1/5, a track record clocking for a 4-year-old trotting gelding. Flemsteen wound up third.
A son of Trixton, Kildare King is trained by Chris Beaver and owned by breeder Robert Goodman. This was Kildare King's 13th lifetime tally, and he has now put away $341,455. He paid $5.06 to win as the 3-2 second choice.

McCarthy's second victory came with Komodo Beach in the horse and gelding pace. Komodo Beach left fast from four and led early but would yield to sit in the two-hole behind Goldie's Legacy (Gingras) beyond the 27 3/5 opening quarter. Goldie's Legacy kept the tempo quick, clicking off middle-half splits of 54 1/5 and 1:21 4/5, but McCarthy wheeled off the pylons before three-quarters to go on the attack.
Goldie's Legacy braced for Komodo Beach's bid, but Komodo Beach took the lead on the rim before they entered the lane, and although Goldie's Legacy kept trying to the wire, Komodo Beach had his measure, prevailing by half a length in 1:49 3/5. Mad Man Hill (A. Miller) collected third.
Komodo Beach is a Somebeachsomewhere gelding trained by Noel Daley for owner Morrison Racing Stables. Komodo Beach has compiled a record of 14-11-5 from 41 lifetime starts, he has banked $441,565 and he paid $2.68 to win as the 1-5 favorite.
