Twin B Joe Fresh lowered her lifetime mark to 1:48 2/5 in winning Tuesday afternoon's $80,000 Kentucky Championship Series clash for 3-year-old filly pacers at The Red Mile.
Always B Naughty (David Miller) set a crisp tempo of 27 1/5, 54 4/5 and 1:22 1/5 in the event, but Strong Poison (Yannick Gingras) was out and on the attack from the pocket going to three-quarters, providing cover to Twin B Joe Fresh (Dexter Dunn). Strong Poison forged her way by Always B Naughty on the outside late on the final bend and turned for home first, but Dunn fanned Twin B Joe Fresh to Strong Poison's outside and then rallied into the lead in mid-stretch. From there, Twin B Joe Fresh pulled clear, tallying by a length and three-quarters. Strong Poison was the runner-up and Cultured (Scott Zeron) closed from sixth to third.
Trainer Chris Ryder also co-owns Twin B Joe Fresh, a daughter of Roll With Joe bred by Brittany Farms, with Dunn and their partners Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak. This was her 12th win from 17 lifetime starts, she has now earned $786,748 and she paid $2.70 to win as the favorite.
47-1 shot Darby Creek (by Downbytheseaside and bred by Steve Stewart, Robert Mondillo and Donald Robinson) charged from tenth at the half to first in a 1:51 3/5 mile in the lone $30,000 Kentucky Commonwealth Series split. The filly was driven by Austin Hanners for trainer Brian Brown and owners Donald Robinson, Michael Robinson, Robert Mondillo and Rich Lombardo Racing LLC.
