Red Mile: Tuscany impresses in Kentucky Sire Stakes
A trio of $40,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes races for 3-year-old trotters were contested on Tuesday afternoon at the Red Mile with 28-1 longshot Tuscany shining brightest.
Tuscany settled in fifth early as fellow longshot Impressive Fashion posted quick fractions of 26 4/5 and 54 3/5 before giving way to the highly-touted Panem well before three quarters in a sizzling 1:22 4/5. Tuscany followed the move of her fellow Diamond Creek Farms-bred and powered away from her in the stretch to win by four lengths in 1:51. Julia C finished third.
George Brennan was in town from New Jersey to drive the winner in the first division for fillies. Nik Drennan trains the daughter of Muscle Hill for Joseph Davino, Brad Shackman and Drennan Stable LLC.
Ms Savannah Belle kicked home in 26 4/5 to capture the other race for sophomore fillies. David Miller tracked in third with his charge behind fractions of 28 4/5 and 56 2/5 before taking aim at three-quarters in 1:25 4/5 and drawing clear to a 1 1/4 lengths win over Charlotte Chaplin and Creature Of Habit.
The Per Engblom trainee paid $2.60 to win for owner Al Libfeld.
The lone division for colts went to another Engblom trainee, Beads. The Archangel-sired colt set strong fractions of 27 3/5, 54 4/5, 1:23 1/5 and stopped the clock in 1:52, 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Barley in second and Mcmatters in third.
