Red Mile: Svanstedt doubles in Bluegrass Series for freshman male trotters

Ake Svanstedt drove two of his trainees - Gap Kronos S and Happy Jack B - to tallies in their Bluegrass Series events for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Thursday afternoon at The Red Mile.

Racing in the third $77,300 split, Gap Kronos S tucked into fourth from post seven and sprinted a final quarter in 27 1/5 from second-over to down a first-over Gimpanzee Dancer (Tim Tetrick) by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:54 3/5. Happy Jack B competed in the final flight and clicked off panels of 29, 57 2/5 and 1:26 3/5 en route to a three length triumph over Hidalgo (Yannick Gingras) in 1:54 1/5.

Gap Kronos S, a Face Time Bourbon colt, was bred by Winged Lion Breeding Ab and is owned by Bruni Racing Team Inc. He has two wins and a second from five starts, has put away $51,395 and paid $17.72 to win.

"He's really big, but he can trot," Svanstedt said after Gap Kronos S's race. Svanstedt also noted, after the colt warmed up clumsy, that he pulled the back shoes ahead of the colt's lifetime-best win.

A Chapter Seven colt bred by Winbak Farm, Happy Jack B has a summary of 2-2-0 from six efforts and has now earned $140,996. He is trained by Svanstedt for owners B Nasstrom Holding Inc., Wolfgang A Stable Inc. and Joe Sbrocco & Jaf Racing and returned $3.94 to win.

"He has been hustling a little bit in New York on the smaller tracks, but it was nice to see him back on the big track and open him up," Sarah Svanstedt said after the race. "He was very nice today."

Tactical Dynasty (Gingras) prevailed in the $77,300 opening division in 1:54 3/5. He pressed on two-wide to the front past the 29 3/5 quarter, put up middle-half stations of 57 3/5 and 1:26 4/5, and, after pocket-sitter and favorite The Rogue Prince (Tetrick) broke in the lane, cruised to a 1 1/4 length victory over Hey Porter (Dexter Dunn).

Trained by Ron Burke, the Spring Haven Farm-bred Tactical Dynasty is a Tactical Landing colt owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC., Phil Collura, Larry Karr and J&T Silva- Purnel & Libby. Tactical Dynasty is a three-time winner from eight appearances, has banked $103,805 and paid $18.70 to win.

The fastest winner was Maximum Mearas S (Scott Zeron), who worked out a third-over trip in the second $78,300 grouping and out-kicked second-over Elan Hanover (Todd McCarthy) to get the job done by half a length in 1:54.

Maximum Mearas S, who paid $4.46 to win, is now three-for-three for trainer Lucas Wallin and owner Kjell Andersen. Bred by Snogarps Gard Inc., Maximum Mearas, a Chapter Seven colt, has pocketed $52,295.

Blank (Dunn) inherited the 1:54 4/5 win in the remaining section as he crossed the wire second but was placed first after Go Dog Go (McCarthy), who took the lead from first-up in the stretch, made a break in the last eighth. He was off-stride over the wire and wound up getting set back to fifth, promoting Monserrate (David Miller) from third to second and Channing (Gingras) from fourth to third.

From the first crop of Gimpanzee, Blank is a Diamond Creek Farm-bred colt and is trained by Marcus Melander for owners S R F Stable and Holly Lane Stud East LTD. Blank has a couple of triumphs and a second from six tries and has stashed away $102,650 He paid $13.74 to win.
