Red Mile: Remainder of Sunday's card moved to Monday following cancelation

webmaster|Aug 16, 2026

Due to lightning and storms around the Lexington, Kentucky, area, The Red Mile suspended the Sunday night (Aug. 16) card after six races and rescheduled the evening's remaining races.

The Red Mile will host a double-header card on Monday (Aug. 17) with the regularly scheduled 16-race card beginning at 1 p.m. (EDT) and will follow that with a special nine-race makeup card of Sunday's races starting at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Before the inclement weather arrived, a trio of Kentucky-bred races hit the track Sunday evening. Baby Puppy (driven by Atlee Bender) soared from a stalking trip to win a $30,000 Kentucky Commonwealth Series division for 2-year-old pacing fillies by 4 1/4 lengths in a 1:51 2/5 mile over 47-1 shot Sweet Deb (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) and Lindy Believer (Yannick Gingras). Erv Miller trains the winning daughter of Bulldog Hanover-American Cheer who paid $5.40 to win.

Odds-on favorites landed in the pair of $15,000 Kentucky Golden Rod divisions contested. Era Dominance (Marvin Luna) ripped to a front-stepping romp by 5 3/4 lengths in a 1:51 1/5 effort, paying $3.80 to win, and Jk Alwaysbpositive (Tim Tetrick) later vaulted off a second-over trip for a victory by three-quarters of a length over pace-setter Odds On Momma (Dexter Dunn) in a 1:52 3/5 mile. She paid $3.16 to win.

Monday's 16-race afternoon card of racing is headlined by the $80,000 second preliminary of the Kentucky Championship Series for 2-year-old trotting fillies while the $80,000 Kentucky Championship Series second preliminary for 2-year-old pacing fillies highlights the nine-race makeup card Monday evening.
