Red Mile: Prince Of Honor, Yes Please rally to take Corbin Sires Stakes finals

Prince Of Honor and Yes Please took top honors in the $70,000 Corbin Sires Stakes for 2-year-old trotters on Monday afternoon at The Red Mile.

Colts and geldings were up first, and Espresso (Andy Miller) took the lead away from Grizz Wyllie (David Miller) beyond the 28 3/5 opening quarter. Espresso then hit the half in 57 3/5, but Ari Ferrari J (Dexter Dunn) came with a first-over bid out of fourth on the last turn that carried him past Espresso for the top spot approaching the 1:26 1/5 three-quarters. When Ari Ferrari J cleared, that left Novel (Joe Bongiorno) uncovered and stalled, sending Prince Of Honor three-wide off his cover.

In the lane Espresso angled out to go back after Ari Ferrari J, but moving even better to their outside was Prince Of Honor, and he'd vault to command inside the final eighth. From there, Prince Of Honor held sway over a game Espresso by three-quarters of a length, stopping the clock in 1:53 4/5. Point Of Perfect (Andy McCarthy) rallied from sixth to third in the final panel.

Carter Pinske handles the training of Prince Of Honor, a son of Walner bred by Marvin Katz and Al Libfeld, for owners Pinske Stables and David Hoese. Prince Of Honor has pocketed $107,790 to go with a 6-0-0 record from eight appearances and paid $8.92 to win as the 3-1 second choice.

Trainer Tony Alagna finished first and second in the filly test with Yes Please (Bongiorno) and If The Shoe Fits (A. McCarthy). The former did the pace-making, posting fractions of 28 3/5, 57 2/5, and 1:26 1/5, but Yes Please, who went first-over out of third on the way to three-quarters, wore down her stablemate inside the last eighth and tallied by a length and a quarter in 1:54 1/5. Paradise Lindy (Dunn) came in third.

A daughter of Father Patrick bred by owner Brittany Farms, Yes Please is now a five-time winner from nine lifetime starts, and she has earned $143,400. She returned $10.92 to win as the 4-1 fourth choice.
