Adios champion Prince Hal Hanover, who was unable to advance out of his elimination to the final of the Little Brown Jug in his last outing, returned to his winning ways in a Bluegrass Series division for 3-year-old male pacers on Saturday afternoon at The Red Mile.  Driven by Todd McCarthy in the $71,000 event, Prince Hal Hanover was in the pocket behind Fallout (Tim Tetrick) at the 26 2/5 quarter, then came to the outside to take command prior to the 54 second half-mile station. From there, Prince Hal Hanover was able to hold off a first-over bid by Meadowlands Pace winner Madden Oaks (Braxten Boyd) around the last turn and to the 1:21 1/5 three-quarters before he came home in 26 1/5 to win by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:47 2/5. Railroad Station (Yannick Gingras) closed for second from Madden Oaks. "That was a good effort for him," Todd McCarthy said. "He's had a big year and it's a real credit to Ian [Moore] and the job he's done with the horse. He's just such a hearty bugger - he shows up and he does his job. Once he took off again, he paced all the way to the wire. He was very impressive." Dr. Moore sent out Prince Hal Hanover, a Captaintreacherous colt bred by Hanover Shoe Farms, for owner Prince Hal Hanover Stable. He has eight wins, nine seconds and two thirds from 25 career starts, has earned $1,009,095 and paid $3.08 to win. Cane Pace victor Captain Optimistic (Scott Zeron), who was second in his elim and third in the final of the Little Brown Jug, took his $70,000 flight in 1:48 after he led through panels of 26 2/5, 53 3/5 and 1:21. Waffle Blue Chip (Tetrick) was the runner-up, three-quarters of a length behind Captain Optimistic, and TH Colby (T. McCarthy) checked in third. Nancy Takter trains Captain Optimistic, another colt by Captaintreacherous, for owners 3 Brothers Stables, Marvin Katz and Caviart Farms. The Fair Winds Farm-bred has a summary of 11-6-3 from 24 outings, has pocketed $861,328 and returned $2.42 to win. "He's been good for us all year," said Alan Katz, who co-owns Captain Optimistic through 3 Brothers Stables. "It's a pleasure owning him. He's never put a bad race in. I wish I had more like him. He can go either on the front or come from behind, it doesn't matter. He gives them all he's got." The last $71,000 split saw Fusion (T. McCarthy) race in fifth through opening-half fractions of 27 1/5 and 53 1/5 and was sent three-wide off dull cover before Strangerinthenight (Marvin Luna) hit three-quarters in a rapid 1:20 3/5. In the stretch Fusion was able to chase down the tired leaders and also held off a closing Lite Up The World (Doug McNair) by a nose in 1:48 4/5. Banderas (Zeron) was up for third. A Diamond Creek homebred by Always B Miki and out of their champion mare Pure Country, Fusion is conditioned by Brett Pelling. Fusion has nine triumphs from 15 appearances, has earnings of $211,947 and paid $18.46 to win. "He kind of fought like his mother did there at the wire," said Adam Bowden of Diamond Creek. "She was one of those fillies that we loved from the second she came and she's finally given us another good one here." ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter Diamond Creek also had a connection to both winners in the $85,500 3-year-old filly paces.  Faze (Tetrick), who Diamond Creek bred and co-owns with Shmuel Farhi and Spreydon Lodge Ltd., won the opening section in 1:49. She led to the 26 4/5 quarter and would yield to race in the two-hol behind Westwinds (T. McCarthy) after that point. Westwinds rolled along to a 54 3/5 half and a 1:22 2/5 three-quarters, but Faze found a seam on the inside in the lane, rallied and defeated a first-over Rose (Yannick Gingras) by three-quarters of a length. Caviart Delight (Zeron) grabbed third. Also trained by Pelling, Faze is by Sweet Lou. She made her fifth trip to the winner's circle, has banked $188,782 and returned $32.20 to win. Champagne Room (Andy McCarthy), another Diamond Creek-bred, won the other test in 1:49 1/5. Positioned eighth and on cover at the 1:21 4/5 three-quarters, McCarthy dove Champagne Room to the inside in the lane, and her 26 2/5 last quarter propelled her to a half-length victory. Unreasonable (Zeron), who took command past the 54 4/5 half, had to settle for second and Found (T. McCarthy) collected third after she got shuffled and then wound up second-over. By Papi Rob Hanover, Champagne Room is trained by Noel Daley for owners Patricia Stable, L A Express & Sjoblom Inc. and Michael Dolan. She's five-time winner from 19 trips behind the gate, has put away $238,844 and paid $6.96 to win. "That's Andy's plan, to go left with her," Daley said after the race. "He got to win by going left; he said she just swells up when he just goes left. Last start in the final, he wasn't able to go left and had to be first-over. When I watched him going left there today I said to Harvey [Fried of Patricia Stable] 'We're going to be alright here. We get to go left.' We gave a stupid amount of money for her. She's from a great family - I've never given that sort of money for one before - but it looks like now we're going to get [it] out of her."
