Red Mile: New marks for When Dovescry, Beautiful Sin after Bluegrass victories

Hambletonian Oaks champion When Dovescry returned to her winning ways after a second-place finish in the Elegantimage final in her most recent engagement, taking a $108,500 Bluegrass test for 3-year-old trotting fillies in a career-best 1:50 1/5. Beautiful Sin, making her debut for trainer-driver Ake Svanstedt, won the other $109,500 split.
When Dovescry and driver Simon Allard went right to the front and showed the way through stations of 27 1/5, 55 3/5, and 1:23 4/5, rebuffing a first-over advance from Fade Into You (Yannick Gingras) to three-quarters. Pocket-sitter Golden Tricks (Svanstedt) had dead-aim at When Dovescry on the inside in the lane as When Dovescry drifted out, but Golden Tricks just couldn't reach as When Dovescry held sway to win by a length and a quarter. Millies Possesion (Dexter Dunn) was third from second-over.
"We raced here last year and she loved it. You can't get a better surface than that, and we got it done. Late in the mile she drifts out a little bit. We'll adjust that next week. It was her first start on Lasix today, and usually they just get better," said winning trainer Rene Allard. "She makes my job so easy. It's her, it's not me. All I try to do is manage her properly. To be patient is very important. It's paying off."
Go Fast Stable, Yves Sarrazin, Kapildeo Singh, and Lawrence Dumain own When Dovescry, a daughter of Muscle Hill. She now has a record of 9-4-3 from 16 starts, and she has banked $696,226. She was sent off as the 7-5 second choice and paid $4.80 to win.
Starita (Brian Sears) blasted to the lead from the outside post nine in the other section and led through fractions of 27 4/5, 56, and 1:24 1/5. Pocket-sitter Asiago (Dunn) angled out two-wide before three-quarters, with Beautiful Sin (Svanstedt) following that move before going three-wide in the lane. Asiago overtook Starita first and had the jump on Beautiful Sin, but she was unable to hold on, with Beautiful Sin going by in the closing strides to win by a neck in 1:50 4/5. Evident Beauty (David Miller) finished third.
"A little special training and she felt much better. She was really sharp when she came behind the gate. She felt really good and fought to win," Svanstedt said of Beautiful Sin, who had last raced for trainer Per Engblom in the Zweig consolation on August 17 at Vernon Downs. "We had not trained her fast, only on the deep track. I think she can be a little bit faster with this race."
Another filly by Muscle Hill, Beautiful Sin is owned by S R F Stable. Beautiful Sin, who had a previous lifetime mark of 1:55 1/5, now has four wins from 13 attempts, and she has earnings of $237,367. Dispatched at 11-1, she returned $24.60 to win.
