Confederate and Double Deceiver are now this year's fastest 2-year-old colt pacer and 3-year-old gelding trotter, respectively, after winning $80,000 Kentucky Championship Series contests on Tuesday afternoon at The Red Mile. Blue Lou (Andy McCarthy) was looking to improve his record to four-for-four in the male pace and would lead through fractions of 27 2/5, 56, and 1:23 3/5, with Confederate (Tim Tetrick) going first-over out of third heading to three-quarters. Blue Lou continued to show the way into the lane, but Confederate would storm into the lead in mid-stretch and then pull clear to tally by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:49 3/5. It's My Show (Yannick Gingras) was the runner-up from the pocket, and Command (Todd McCarthy) closed well to get third. A Sweet Lou-Geothermal colt trained by Brian Brown, Confederate was bred by Diamond Creek Farm and is owned by Diamond Creek's racing operation. He has a record of 2-0-1 from three starts, has now earned $56,200, and paid $4.80 to win as the 7-5 second choice. In the colt and gelding trot, Branded By Lindy (Gingras) posted panels of 28 2/5, 56 3/5, and 1:23 4/5, with Fast As The Wind (Dexter Dunn) in the pocket and Double Deceiver (David Miller) in third. Fast As The Wind and Double Deceiver both vacated the pylons after three-quarters and surged by Branded By Lindy inside the final eighth, but it was Double Deceiver who had the better kick late, getting by Fast As The Wind for a half-length victory in 1:50 2/5. Branded By Lindy wound up third. The victorious gelding by Cantab Hall was bred by Steve Stewart and Oakwood Farms and is trained by Carter Pinske for owners Pinske Stables and Makenna Pinske. Double Deceiver is an eight-time winner from 18 lifetime tries, has now pocketed $463,479, and returned $4.02 to win as the even-money favorite. After winning with Confederate, Diamond Creek also took the two $30,000 Kentucky Commonwealth Series events for rookie pacing colts and geldings with Combustion and Cannibal. Combustion, a Captaintreacherous colt bred by Brittany Farms and co-owned by Diamond Creek in partnership with Thomas and Scott Dillon and Cooper Silva Stables, was driven to his 1:51 1/5 triumph by Todd McCarthy for trainer Brett Pelling, and Cannibal, a colt by Sweet Lou who Diamond Creek also bred, prevailed in 1:50 2/5 for driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Nancy Takter. Just For Trix, a 30-1 shot, rallied to an upset win for David Miller and Mike Murphy in the Kentucky Commonwealth Series tilt for sophomore male trotters. Just For Trix, a Trixton colt bred by Kentuckiana Farms and Perry Soderberg, stopped the teletimer in 1:53 1/5. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter Capturing the two $15,000 Kentucky Golden Rod Series flights for 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers were: --Larceny (by Always B Miki and bred by Diamond Creek Farm and A B M Stable) in 1:52 for driver Corey Callahan, trainer Amanda Fine, and owner Steve Heimbecker; --Admiral Hill (by Sweet Lou and bred by owner Thomas Hill) in 1:53 1/5 for driver Dexter Dunn and trainer Chris Ryder.
