Red Mile: Miller Time in Sunday's Kentucky Sires Stakes

David Miller steered gelding Caliber and filly Baby Your The Best to wins in the two $40,000 Kentucky Sires Stakes events for 3-year-old pacers that were on Sunday afternoon's card at The Red Mile.
Caliber, with Miller carrying the colors of owner/breeder Diamond Creek Farm, led all the way in the colt and gelding flight, posting fractions of 27 1/5, 54 4/5, and 1:22 4/5 on his way to a life's-best clocking of 1:48 4/5. He defeated favored Sea Of Life (Trace Tetrick) by two lengths, with Fortify (Mark MacDonald) third.
Ron Burke trains Caliber, a son of Sweet Lou who won for the third time from 14 career tries and pushed his bankroll to $118,994. He was the 6-1 fourth choice in the field of six and paid $14.20 to win.
Reflect With Me, the winner of the Mistletoe Shalee, Nadia Lobell, and Shady Daisy in the last five weeks, was scheduled to compete in the filly race, but she was scratched sick. With Reflect With Me not around, Baby Your The Best and Miller went off at 1-9, but she looked like she might be vulnerable after working up two-wide to clear past a hot 53 4/5 half. Miller was able to back down the pace after that, though, getting to three-quarters in 1:23, and Baby Your The Best was simply too good from there as she kicked away to prevail by 9 1/4 lengths in 1:50 1/5. Gai Waterhouse (MacDonald) got second, with Hot Gossip (Tyler Smith) third.
Baby Your The Best, a daughter of Captaintreacherous, is trained by Linda Toscano for owners Richard Young and Joanne Young. Baby Your The Best now has a record of 4-7-4 from 20 efforts, and she boosted her earnings to $328,147. She returned $2.20 to win.
