Red Mile: McCarthy brothers go three-for-four in Corbin Maturity Series

Four-year-olds of both sexes and gaits competed in the first leg of the Corbin Maturity Series on Tuesday afternoon at The Red Mile. Each dash went for a purse of $35,000.
Beltassima (Andy McCarthy) won the Oak Grove version of this event earlier this year and cruised in today's mare trot. She led her four foes through fractions of 29 1/5, 58 4/5, and 1:28, then sprinted home in 27 4/5 to defeat pocket-sitter Highly Acclaimed (Dan Shetler) by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:55 4/5. Awesome Trix (Tony Hall) came in third.
The victorious Trixton mare is owned by Crawford Farms LLC. and trained by Tony Alagna. She is now a 13-time winner, and she has stashed away $515,447. She paid $2.50 to win as the 1-5 favorite.
In the mare pace High Minded (Todd McCarthy) trailed the field in sixth at the 28 1/5 quarter, 56 3/5 half, and 1:25 3/5 three-quarters, but she found a seam to rally through on the inside in the lane and powered home in 25 4/5 to get up and tally by three-quarters of a length in 1:52 2/5. Classicist (A. McCarthy) was the runner-up and Ahoy (Yannick Gingras) was third.
Linda Toscano trains High Minded, a daughter of Captaintreacherous, for owners Camelot Stable Inc., Fred Wallace, The Bay's Stable LLC., and Steve Stewart. High Minded made her eighth appearance in the winner's circle, has now pocketed $312,581, and returned $17.12 to win as the 7-1 third choice.
Goldie's Legacy (Gingras) took command beyond the 29 3/5 opening quarter in the horse and gelding pace, and after middle-half splits of 58 and 1:26 1/5, took a comfortable lead into the stretch. However, he made a break while seemingly on cruise control, handing the victory to Komodo Beach (A. McCarthy), who swept from fourth at three-quarters to a 2 1/2 length triumph in 1:52 4/5. Captains Place (T. McCarthy) was next, followed by Caviart Lotus (Hall).
Komodo Beach is a Somebeachsomewhere gelding trained by Noel Daley for owner Morrison Racing Stables. Komodo Beach has compiled a record of 13-11-5 from 41 lifetime starts, he has banked $406,564 and he paid $6.56 to win as the 2-1 second choice.

The horse and gelding trot saw Lockbox (Devon Tharps) chop out the 28 1/5 quarter, but he would be passed by Kildare King (Gingras) and Venerate (Andy Miller) prior to the 55 3/5 half. After hitting the front, Venerate kept the top spot through three-quarters in 1:23 3/5, then trotted a 27 4/5 final quarter to fend off Kildare King by half a length in 1:51 2/5. Lockbox wound up third.
Trained by Julie Miller, Venerate is a son of Love You owned by Pinske Stables, Andy Miller Stable Inc., and Diamond Creek Racing. Venerate picked up his 11th lifetime victory, pushed his earnings to $919,234, and returned $6.00 to win as the 2-1 second choice.
