Red Mile: Making Waves, Perfect Sting maintain win streaks

Making Waves (filly) and Perfect Sting (colt) both remained perfect in the Kentucky Sires Stakes program in 2020, winning their respective $40,000 events for 2-year-old pacers on Monday afternoon at The Red Mile.
Driven by Scott Zeron, Making Waves pressed on past Notorious Pink (Joe Bongiorno) for the top spot after the 28 2/5 opening quarter. After clearing, Making Waves would be immediately challenged by a two-wide Lindy At The Beach (Mark MacDonald), and Lindy At The Beach became the new leader prior to the 56 1/5 half-mile point.
Zeron elected to remain on the cones with Making Waves on the far turn, and that allowed Notorious Pink to get the jump on her, as Bongiorno tipped her out and hustled up and around Lindy At The Beach after the 1:26 2/5 three-quarters. It looked like Making Waves might be in some trouble at that point, as she got shuffled back and needed room, but a path came available up the inside in the lane, and Making Waves poured through it, charging past Notorious Pink late to win by half a length in 1:52 1/5. Lindy At The Beach wound up third.
The victorious Captaintreacherous filly, who has won three times in four starts and banked $68,405, is trained by Linda Toscano for owner Brittany Farms LLC. and was bred by Hanover Shoe Farms Inc. Out of the Camluck mare Trim Hanover (1:52 4/5, $123,133), Making Waves is a half-sister to American Jewel (American Ideal, 1:48 2/5, $1,836,855) and Luck Be Withyou (Western Ideal, 1:47 4/5, $1,454,166). Making Waves was the 2-5 favorite and paid $2.80 to win.
In the companion race for colts and geldings, Perfect Sting raced off-the-pace this time, getting away in seventh while Native's Filou (Dan Noble) swept around Ilderton AM (MacDonald) passing the 26 4/5 opening quarter. Perfect Sting began a first-over move in the backstretch, and he improved to sixth at the 56 1/5 half and third at the 1:25 1/5 three-quarters.
Native's Filou managed to hang on to the top spot turning for home, but Perfect Sting kept coming two-wide in the stretch, and though Native's Filou did dig in, Perfect Sting edged by for a one length win in 1:51 3/5. Ilderton AM held third at 87-1.
Joe Holloway trains Perfect Sting, a homebred for Brittany Farms LLC. and Val D'Or Farms. Perfect Sting, a colt by Always B Miki, is now five-for-five in his career, and he has earned $69,400. His dam is the world champion Bettor's Delight mare Shebestingin (1:47, $759,522), and he is now her top-earning offspring. Perfect Sting returned $2.20 to win as the 1-9 choice.
