Red Mile: Lyons Sentinel, Peaky Sneaky capture Glen Garnsey Memorials

Lyons Sentinel and Peaky Sneaky got the job done in the pair of $112,500 Glen Garnsey Memorial flights for 3-year-old filly pacers that took place early on Sunday afternoon's program at The Red Mile.

In the first grouping, Reflect With Me (Andrew McCarthy) forged past both Lyons Sentinel (Tim Tetrick) and Marloe Hanover (Joe Bongiorno) for control before the 28 2/5 opening quarter. Reflect With Me stayed on the point to the half in 56 3/5, but then made a break on the far turn, sending Lyons Sentinel two-wide, first-over attacker Baby Your The Best (David Miller) three-wide, and second-over JK First Lady (Yannick Gingras) four-wide to get around her nearing the 1:23 4/5 three-quarters.

Turning for home, Lyons Sentinel had the lead in the two-path, and she kicked away from her pursuers to the wire, winning by 2 1/2 lengths in 1:49 2/5, which tied her mark. JK First Lady ended up second, with Hen Party (Dexter Dunn) up for third. There was an inquiry after the race looking into the break by Reflect With Me and subsequent action by others to get around her, but no change was made.

Jim King Jr. trains Lyons Sentinel, a filly by Captaintreacherous, for owner Threelyonsracing. Lyons Sentinel now has a record of 11-11-1 from 25 career appearances, and she has banked $1,103,639. She returned $4.40 to win as the favorite.

The second division saw Peaky Sneaky (Gingras) on the lead early, but New Year (Dunn) bypassed available tucks on the turn and drove on to the engine after the 27 1/5 opening quarter. New Year kept the tempo spicy after taking over, going on to the half in 54 3/5 and three-quarters in 1:22 1/5, but Gingras wheeled Peaky Sneaky out before that latter marker, and she overhauled New Year before they entered the stretch. Through the lane it was all Peaky Sneaky as she opened up at will to the wire, scoring by 5 1/2 lengths in a career-best 1:48. Perfect Storm (D. Miller) came in second, with Rocknificent (Scott Zeron) third.

A daughter of Bettor's Delight, Peaky Sneaky is trained by Nancy Takter for owners Howard Taylor, Judith Taylor, and Order By Stable. Peaky Sneaky now has seven career victories, and she has earned $304,049. She was the chalk and paid $4.80 to win.
