Red Mile: Lifetime marks for Kissin In The Sand, Double A Mint in Tattersalls events

Kissin In The Sand and Double A Mint both went 1:47 and change miles in taking the pair of Tattersalls divisions for 3-year-old filly pacers that were raced on Saturday afternoon at The Red Mile.
The second $113,750 tilt was loaded with Kissin In The Sand (Scott Zeron) facing off against Youaremycandygirl (Yannick Gingras), Alexa's Power (Tim Tetrick), and others. Youaremycandygirl would make front, and then gave the cold shoulder to Kissin In The Sand, forcing her to sit a pocket trip through fractions of 27 2/5, 53 4/5, and 1:20 3/5. Zeron angled Kissin In The Sand back to the outside in the lane, and she surged past Youaremycandygirl in deep stretch to win by three-parts of a length in 1:47 4/5. Baron Remy (Matt Kakaley) kept Alexa's Power at bay for third.
Nancy Johansson trains Kissin In The Sand, a daughter of Somebeachsomewhere, for owners Marvin Katz and Hatfield Stables. This was Kissin In The Sand's 17th career victory, and she has now earned $961,670. The 1-5 favorite, Kissin In The Sand paid $2.40 to win.
Back in the opening $111,250 split, which was the second race on the card, Wisdom Tree (Kakaley) rolled into the lead around Double A Mint (Gingras) going to the 27 2/5 first quarter and went on to hit the half in 54 2/5 and the three-quarters in 1:21 1/5. Double A Mint angled out in the stretch, though, and had plenty of pace too, zipping by Wisdom Tree and going on to win by 4 1/4 lengths in 1:47 3/5. I'm Trigger Happy (Corey Callahan) snagged third.
"There was some good competition, so you never know, but at the top of the stretch I pulled her and I knew she was a winner. For sure I was going for (a lifetime mark). I knew we were going a big mile, so I drove her to the wire."
Double A Mint, a filly by Bettor's Delight, is trained by Ron Burke for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Dandy Farms Inc., Silva, Purnel & Libby, and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. This was her fifth lifetime win (and first this year), and she has now pocketed $301,971. A 9-1 shot, she returned $20.20 to win.
