Red Mile: Kentucky Sire Stakes paces won by Hungry For Love, El Rey
Hungry For Love and El Rey emerged with the wins in Tuesday afternoon's first leg of the Kentucky Sire Stakes for 4-year-old pacers at The Red Mile.
In the $35,000 event for mares, Strong Poison (Yannick Gingras) led through fractions of 28 2/5, 56 and 1:24 3/5, but David Miller swung Hungry For Love out in the lane from a three-hole trip, and she sprinted a 25 1/5 final quarter to catch and pass Strong Poison, defeating her by half a length in 1:50 2/5. Keep My Secret (Marvin Luna) and Prosecco Princess (Todd McCarthy) rounded out the order.
A daughter of Stay Hungry bred by Brittany Farms, Hungry For Love is trained by Ron Burke for owners Thomas and Scott Dillon. She won for the 15th time from 44 efforts, has put away $542,866 and paid $6.72 to win as the 2-1 second choice.

El Rey (Marcus Miller) was in front at the 27 3/5 quarter, 54 4/5 half and a 1:22 1/5 three-quarters in the contest for horses and geldings, and he just held on in a blanket finish at the wire, defeating pocket-sitter Admiral Hill (Gingras) by a nose in 1:49 1/5. Blue Lou (D. Miller) angled out in the stretch from third and was right there with the top two to round out the trifecta.
Andrew Harris trains El Rey, a son of Captaintreacherous, and also co-owns him with William Pollock and Bruce Areman. Bred by Riverview Breeding LLC., El Rey has a record of 10-9-6 from 41 outings, has banked $656,130 and returned $6.06 to win as the 2-1 second choice.
