Red Mile: Kentucky Commonwealth Series finals conclude

Amanda Stephens Prince Of Honor converted a second-over trip into a Kentucky Commonwealth Series title

After two finals took place on Sunday afternoon, the remaining six $100,000 Kentucky Commonwealth Series championship events for 2- and 3-year-olds went to post on Monday at The Red Mile.

Driver Todd McCarthy picked up two victories, guiding 3-year-old filly pacer Hungry For Love to a front-stepping 1:49 victory and sophomore gelding trotter Prince Of Honor to a 1:51 4/5 tally from second-over.

Hungry For Love, trained by Ron Burke and bred by Brittany Farms, is a daughter of Stay Hungry owned by Thomas and Scott Dillon. She won for the ninth time, has earned $311,901 and paid $8.26 to win. Prince Of Honor, a Walner gelding bred by Marvin Katz and Al Libfeld, is owned by Pinske Stables and David Hoese and trained by Carter Pinske. He has a summary of 10-2-0 from 13 appearances, has banked $222,790 and returned $4.26 to win.

Maidens won the finals for 2-year-old colts and geldings, with Sir John B (Andy McCarthy) rallying on the inside from fourth to take the pace in 1:51 4/5 at odds of 13-1, and Show Me (Andy Miller) annexing the trot from first-over in 1:53 4/5 an as 8-1 shot.

Sir John B, a Stay Hungry colt sent out by Tony Alagna, was bred by Alagna Racing, Brad Grant and Mel Segal and is now owned by Alagna and Grant. He made his first appearance in the winner's circle in his sixth effort, sent his bankroll to $75,900 and paid $28.08 to win. Show Me, a Chapter Seven colt, is trained by Julie Miller for owners Andy Miller Stable Inc., Daniel Plouffe, Jean Plouffe and One Legend Stable. The Katz and Libfeld-bred has a win, two seconds and three thirds in sixth trips behind the gate, has put away $78,740 and returned $19.08 to win.

Homebreds won the finals for 3-year-old filly trotters and 2-year-old pacing fillies, with Diamond Creek's Catholic (Tim Tetrick) delivering from first-up in 1:53 2/5 in the trot and Marvin Katz and Sam Goldband's Flawless (Yannick Gingras) scoring on the engine in 1:51 2/5 in the pace.

Catholic, conditioned by Marcus Melander, is a daughter of Muscle Hill who is now a four-time winner and earner of $122,300. She paid $9.12 to win. Nancy Takter was the victorious trainer with Flawless, a Captaintreacherous filly who made her second appearance in the winner's circle and has now socked away $87,985. She returned $7.42 to win.

The Kentucky Sires Stakes season at The Red Mile wraps up on Tuesday with eight $50,000 Golden Rod Series finals.
